Surrey Driving Force are now offering advanced tuition for aspiring cab drivers, in order that they can pass the Enhanced Hackney Carriage Test.
What is the Enhanced Hackney Carriage Test?
In order to be a qualified as a licensed Hackney Carriage driver, applicants must pass the above mentioned test. The test is approximately 40 minutes long and will be made up of the following parts:
- Eyesight (number plate from 20.5 metres)
- Awareness & anticipation
- Effective planning of prevailing road & traffic conditions
- Correct use of speed
- Emergency stop
- A manoeuvre involving reversing
- Hackney Carriage/Private Hire related exercise
- Passenger safety & comfort
- Wheelchair access
There will also be an element of the test whereby the driver will be expected to drive for a time without street-by-street instruction from the examiner.
Meet Ray Viner
Ray Viner is an experienced Hackney Carriage instructor, and one of the newest members of the Surrey Driving Force family.
He is a Grade 6 Approved Driving Instructor, qualified in 1982, and for the first 18 years taught learner drivers.
In 2000, he qualified as a Black Cab (Hackney Carriage) driver and, since that time, has been giving advanced driving instruction to trainee Black Cab Drivers, providing them with the skill set required to pass the Enhanced Hackney Carriage Test.
